Have you got a manuscript but you’re unsure about the next step?
Have you sent your manuscript out to all and sundry and still no reply?
We aim to fix that!
Our service is gaining praise from all who’ve used it. Our unique approach allows you to submit your manuscript for appraisal through our new paid-for service.
What is the manuscript appraisal service?
The Manuscript Appraisal Service is where you can get direct, clear and simple feedback on your manuscript from a real reader. Once you submit your manuscript, the For Pity Sake editorial team will assign a reader to the work. In partnership with the editing staff, the reader compiles a structured report giving feedback on the work. We think it’s the cheapest, quickest way to give writers editorial insight into their work.
What do I get?
A two to three page structured report that identifies the work’s key strengths and weaknesses. Included in the summary are specific suggestions on how to improve the work’s chance of successful publication.
Who reads my work?
A real reader who has a strong interest in your genre. Many of our readers are writers themselves. Some have experience in publishing. These readers are given assistance from the For Pity Sake editorial team, including our marketing specialist, our CEO, and chief editor.
Is this a way I can get you to publish my work?
The Manuscript Appraisal Service is first and foremost about providing feedback to writers at any stage of development. However, the service means that our editorial staff certainly come into contact with your manuscript. If, after receiving our feedback, you feel For Pity Sake is the right place for your work, we encourage you to continue a conversation with us about a possible future for the work. We will certainly let you know if we’re interested.
Do I need a whole manuscript?
The manuscript appraisal service is open to partial and whole manuscripts; however we cannot accept synopsises alone. If you do not have a completed manuscript you’re welcome to submit extracts, or the beginning of a work that you may want to build upon, all we require is a substantial sample of your work. Alternatively, the manuscript may be very developed and have already been circulated to several publishers. We’ll accept works at any stage of their life. Please note that a base rate of $50 per submission will be charged regardless of the size of your work.

Can I become an appraiser?
